Friday's weather continues to look great behind a departing cold front, with mostly sunny skies and cool temperatures in the 60s. An upper level disturbance is still expected to cross the area, but the timing has sped up, and showers and thunderstorms with this system are expected to move through Friday night. A few showers may linger into Saturday morning, but they are likely to be gone before on-track activities begin. It will be breezy during the afternoon, with gusts around 20 to 25 mph.
Looking ahead to practice week for the Indy 500, it appears to be a rather active and wet pattern across the region. There are some differences in the models on specific timing of systems and rain amounts, but it appears that late Monday through Tuesday could be a rainy period, with another system in the area late Wednesday through Thursday. With this pattern, I expect that there will be a lot of weather interruptions to the practice sessions.
Our forecast for qualifying weekend will be posted early next week.
